Town of Carmel Comprehensive Plan & Zoning Ordinance Update

In a continuing effort to inform and engage the residents of the Town of Carmel of the progress of the Comprehensive Plan & Zoning Ordinance, the Town Board is requesting that our residents review the preliminary zoning ideas listed below which were presented at the last Public Workshop held on December 2, 1999 by Buckhurst Fish & Jacquemart Inc. Divney Tung Schwalbe, planning and engineering consultants.

These zoning ideas will be discussed thoroughly at a public Town Board meeting on January 19, 2000 at 8:30 PM at the Carmel Town Hall. Each zoning idea will be discussed in its relationship with the various data that has been accumulated and analyzed by the planning and engineering firm preparing the master plan.

If you cannot attend the January 19th meeting, we welcome your comments or questions, which you can send by E-mail or mail to Supervisor Frank J. Del Campo, Carmel Town Hall, 60 McAlpin Avenue, Mahopac, New York 10541.

It should be noted that the Town Board has made no decisions regarding the appropriateness of these proposals. We are seeking the comments of the public in regard to them.

It is very important that we continue to involve the community in this mission of planning for the immediate and long-term needs of the Town of Carmel.

Comments of Scott Friedman which were posted on the message board and e-mailed to Town Hall:

Town Board Shifts Again – Jan 19th to be a "Thorogh Discussion" of master plan.

The Town Board has shifted again.

As you are probably aware, at the infamous December 29th public hearing on the proposed rezoning of Baldwin Place (scheduled between Christmas and New Years), we were told there would be a "PUBLIC WORKSHOP" on the Master Plan at the January 19th meeting.

Then, as recently as two days ago, we were told the 3 scheduled workshops had already been completed and that instead the draft master plan would be "PRESENTED at the January 19th meeting.

Change again – the draft will not be presented.

Now, according to Supervisor Frank Del Campo Town Hall, the proposed zoning ideas will be "THOROUGHLY DISCUSSED" at the Jan. 16th meeting. We do not whether the thorough discussions will include discussions with the public. We trust Supervisor Del Campo will want to clarify this immediately as to avoid any further confusion. Will requests for clarification and/or questions and comments from the public be permitted?

In the "What’s New" section of the Town’s website (carmelresident.org), the following is posted

"These zoning ideas will be discussed thoroughly at a public Town Board meeting on January 19, 2000 at 8:30 PM at the Carmel Town Hall. Check out the page that appeared on the town's website this morning  www.carmelresident.org/masterplan/towns_announcement_13jan00.html .

Please check out the town’s website for clarification in whether questions or comments from the public will be permitted and updates in the What's New section in the town's official website at  www.carmelny.org .

Also, by copy of this message to Supervisor Del Campo, we are again requesting that the tentative agenda of the meeting January 19th meeting be posted in Town Hall and on the Town’s official website. The towns website has the terrific ability to post agendas in a calendar that is accessed by clicking the Community News icon. Check it out. Minutes and Agenda can be posted there as well and I understand the Town is considering doing this. How much is the agenda going to change between now a Wednesdays?

Also, a clarification would be appreciated regarding the time of the meeting, which today’s Journal News reports as being 7:30 PM and not 8:30 PM, as the town’s website states. (The Journal News article is not on their website yet but check it out later today -nyjournalnews.com.

PS. Kudo’s to the Town for posting the announcement and the preliminary zoning ideas on the Town’s website. I hope this is a sign of things to come and that the consultants other two reports will soon be posted – a minutes of the all of the board meetings and public hearings.
