What is the state of our water supply and quality?
As unchecked development and an ongoing
drought continue, the supply and quality of our water becomes threatened.
Storm water runoff from paved surfaces carry contaminants into the reservoirs
and lakes that supply water to residents of the town and New York
City.
While some local reservoirs may appear full,
other basins in the Croton watershed are as low as 15 percent capacity.
The Town Engineer sent a letter to residents regarding the drought and how to
conserve water.
And now, contaminants have been found in
residential and commercial water supply in Mahopac. The county and town
are working on remediation.
