I think that you need a subscription for this.  Sorry, but this had some hilarious quotes in it from Paulie The Paver, and others.  I couldn't resist.  As Jeff Green said, a pure propaganda piece.

Camarda: Anti-Business Attitude Hurts Taxpayers

"Elected officials vote against sharing sales tax revenue to offset road improvements "

by Carli-Rae Panny

On Tuesday night the Putnam County Legislator voted 7-2 a county will not share sales tax revenue with private developers. In practice, this means that developer Paul Camarda and Patterson Crossing, Realty, LLC, will not be reimbursed should the company fix the roads near the proposed Patterson Crossing shopping center."

You gotta love this quote:

“Here’s a business man who has given back to the community time after time,” said a Putnam citizen who knows Camarda and wished to remain anonymous. “The tax payers of Putnam would benefit significantly from Camarda’s project. Unfortunately the legislature harbors an animosity towards entrepreneurs.”

Wow. Is Camarda on the fast train to pariahville, or what?
Even his friends don't want to be identified with him.
Gee, I wonder if those hard working professionals that Camarda is talking about include that Mangone fellow.

Below, with his permission, is some of Mike Santos pointed analysis of the article:

"Camarda said he has been asked by officials to make many alterations to the roads surrounding Patterson Crossing...." - PCC article

Actually, that line should read: "Camarda promised officials and the public he would make many alterations to the roads surrouding Patterson Crossing during his attempts to receive approval for the project."

Camada said: "Dealing with today’s economy, realities regarding jobs and taxes require fresh ideas...."

Acres of box stores paying $10 an hour is a fresh idea? darn...I thought I'd heard that one before. Corporate Welfare is a fresh idea? Gee, I thought AIG, Citibank, and Wall Street had invented that one way back in '08.

"Camarda is known as Putnam’s biggest developer and is a prominent local citizen." - PCC article

Actually, Ms. Panny, Paul Camarda is a citizen of Connecticut, where he lives and votes. A little light on the time for research , were we?
"...Camarda said he was told to put money up to fix the roads and that a taxing district would be created that encompassed Patterson Crossing..."

Exactly who told you that, Paul? We want names, ranks, and serial numbers.

Camarda tried to cut corners to mazimize his profits and the hell with the public. Didn't work this time. but previous proposals couldn't have been done without the complicity of town boards, regulatory agencies, IDA and the DOT, i.e. approving his phosphorus removal scheme so that Patterson Crossing could be built and the DEP who stamped their okay on The Retreat stormwater plans then had to go back and inspect it 150 times for erosion and sedimentation.  Ditto Camarda Park whose slopes are eroding and need to be shorn up and what's up with the hotel, Jaral waiting for the Empire Zone Godot, so they can build a scaled down, diminished 5-Star Wonder. The taxes are paid by the developer but then reimbursed by the State (we, the residents are the State), and when are we going to see the new plans or are we?  Meantime, dust swirls on the dissecated hills and slopes leading to the gateway to Carmel.

And tonight, there will be Union Place on Rte 6 and Baldwin Place  before the Planning Board docket.  Did Camarda pay the $300,000 required by the Board or is he on a lay-away plan, similar to the 19 acres payment for the hotel property and the $500,000 donation to the hospital - paid one-half and then another half on a $34 million dollar building and the Hospital Board said thank you and emblazened his name on the new addition.   He is up there with the best of them. At last night's Planning Board meeting, there was a ritualized recitation of the steps that had been taken or would be taken in the future re: Union Place SEQRA process. One jarring note was the characterization by the Town Planning Consultant Cleary of the applicant's efforts in preparation of the DEIS (Draft Environmental Impact Statement) as "diligent."  I'm sure.

But further, there was also on the docket - MBS Holdings- a 9,000 sq. ft 2-story retail/office proposal located on Rte 6 with a facade of sheer rock sloping ever upward and onward. (Anybody ask about the need for blasting and a code.  Seems 29,000 cubic yards of dirt (fill) will have to be removed)

The ZBA contrary to the urging of the Planning Board denied the applicant their request for reduced parking spaces so if you don't have space on the ground, well there is always the roof.  Yes, roof-top parking is coming to Mahopac.  Will wonders ever cease.   The beautification of Rt 6 continues apace.

And more to the point.  MBS needs sewer hookup.  And who else needs sewer hookup?  Villa Barone's entry into the hotel market. Please note Camarda, they are willing to pay for it. And possibly one more.  You guessed it.

During the Munday administration, the lately involuntarily retired Town Engineer, Jack Karell, submitted a proposal for extending the sewer lines all the way to Baldwin Place.  The plans are there.  Has the DEP been contacted? I bet the Chairman of the Planning Board knows.  I bet everybody is very diligent on that score.   Roll Eyes

Stay tuned.

There is a terrific article in the North County News. Seems that the management of Jefferson Village built about 40 years ago on wetlands, wants Yorktown to pay for its stormwater problems.  Sounds familiar.

I wonder if Camarda's Retreat will stand the test of time or Camarda Park or Patterson Crossing when built.  As I pointed out with not even 1/3 of the Retreat constructed, the DEP has been forced to investigate erosion and sedimentation problems 150 times and the slopes of the park are eroding necessitating the Town Board to call upon In-Site Engineering to fix the problem.  What will be the future costs to Carmel taxpayers? Angry

Here is a paragraph from the article:

Town Supervisor Susan Siegel is right when she said it is not the town’s responsibility to pay for drainage repairs on private property, such as Jefferson Village. She and the Town Board need to stand firm, especially in the face of the threat of a lawsuit. If Jefferson Village can threaten to sue and the board bends, there will be no end to the private property owners who could follow suit, so to speak.
